Tailoring group instruction for (S)Stable profile students
Maria, a student with a Stable (S) DISC profile, was learning Spanish. Her group displayed a diverse set of personality types and learning styles, which led to a dynamic and fast-paced learning environment. Maria found it difficult to keep up with the pace of the class, often feeling overwhelmed during activities that required quick decision-making or spontaneous responses. Recognizing Maria's struggle, her teacher, adapted the course to better support her learning style without compromising the needs of the other students. This included:
- Segmented Learning: Breaking down lessons into smaller, manageable segments, allowing Maria time to absorb information at a more comfortable pace.
- Reflective Sessions: Incorporating brief reflective sessions after each major activity, giving Maria time to process and discuss the material.
- Buddy System: Pairing Maria with a another student who had a complementary learning style, to help her navigate faster-paced parts of the class more effectively.
- Personalized Feedback: Providing Maria with detailed written feedback, enabling her to review lessons at his own pace, at home.
With these adjustments, Maria was able to engage more in class activities and contribute to group discussions. Being given the chance to participate more actively, helped Maria to master the language and speak confidently with her friends and colleagues.
